Attachments do not happen on the level of form. They happen on the
mental / emotional level. That's where they must be dealt with. So,
you must not only be willing to give up anything and everything you are
attached to, you must actually achieve it within. To be enlightened is
to be free from attachments and need. Independant, but also flowing
with all that IS. You generally blossom where you are planted. Tho in
some cases your environment may be to controlling and suppressive and
you might be more able to let go of any codependance by separating on
the level of form at least for a while. (thus asceticism). Meditation
is a practice that in effect is letting go of thinking and emoting.

I'm inclined to agree with this. Maybe its about examining the nature of
all of these relationships and attachments and creating flow where there
is blockage. The idea of giving up the relationships would show where
the work is to be done !! Once flow is acheived, the nature of the
relationships would be freer, with non-attachment and love on the
enlightened person's side. Why is 'removing oneself' from those
people/energy sources then neccessary? Would that not be unneccesary
avoidance of certain energies? The challenge may more likely be on the
side of the non-enlightened circle, who then start finding some new
blocks to workthrough and release!!

Just my thoughts, as I havent chipped in for awhile !
