I'm not sure about vortices and shields being polar opposites but
the idea of shields to protect from harmful environments - let me
rephrase that. The idea of shields to protect *a hurt, injured,
new or developing system* from whatever environment is of course
very good indeed and has come up numerous times interestingly in
the PS concepts.
In PS, there exists the notion of a greenhouse which you use to
regulate temperature, rain and sunlight in order to protect an
emergent system to the point of - yeah well, emergence.
I believe that the active use of shielding is very valuable *if*
it is considered to be an interim measure only as one re-learns to
process the energies correctly and not as a glass tower to spend
the rest of one's existence in.
I don't put this forward often or as a matter of course because
the act of creating shielding is often such a peaceful and
detaching experience to a harrassed or hurt individual that unless
they are really committed to development, they will simply remain
there with a big sigh of relief - and that is a very dubious
outcome IMHO which in many ways is worse than just suffering out
in the open and doing the best one can with external environmental
control - such as avoiding people and substances and situations.
As long as you are out in the open, you at least have the chance
of the odd lightning strike or watching a falling star to make a
wish upon, or an ice-cold shower of rain to wash some sense into
you at random :-)
Which does no longer happen inside the glass tower and
represents, once again, a trap to development if it isn't handled
correctly.
