Hi Silvia. I view most symptoms as coping mechanisms and deep inner choices
that have very good reasons behind them. Originally, they might have begun
as a response to trauma of some sort, but have been adopted by the psyche
because in some weird-ass manner they worked.
I laughed along with your story of the migraines but I'm sure it wasn't all
that funny at the time.
If one wants to cut off their head because it's so painful...it's real hard
to focus on life's outer pain.
And yes...EFT is not as effective working alone is it? But it still works to
a degree and it's a great technique in a world where there seem to be few
self-help tools that are simple and work for most. I rarely use it on myself
except for pain...and a bee sting once. Worked well for that! I'm like you..
I repress like mad and need a facilitator to get anywhere valuable.
I also view everything as being a Now event. Even if the pain has been
happening for years, it's still off and on isn't it? So..there must be a
trigger. And...that trigger is in the now. That trigger might also have a
label on it about the past which will surface if you ask the right questions
Everything happens in the now doesn't it?
I discovered the emotion/pain/now connection with phrasing and eft when
working with friends. Someone would show up all twisted with a bad back...or
a migraine etc. And, me being me, I'd wanna fix it. So rather than go into
the past...as most therapy will do, I had to deal with the present because
of the situation.
I'd start asking questions about the day the pain started...or the day
before or that week until I found what I was looking for. Always, without
exception there was a stressor of some sort right now!. In-law problems..
feeling overwhelmed with responsibility etc. Legal battles, you name it. We
would tap on the "burden-pain" or whatever we called it and at the very
least the suds would go to a 1 or 2. If they were a client, that's when our
work could really begin.
One of these days I'm going to get your new book. My cousin in England is
going to send it to me as I'd rather have that then the ebook version. I
look forward to it.
Syena...

LOL!
Hi there Syena,
and of course you are right, entirely right about that. But that -
sigh! - is one of the big problems with EFT. You have to
consciously KNOW or at least suspect or think about the problem.
If you are very good at repressing problems (which I blatantly
am!) and especially when these problems are like the forest and
you can't see the trees at all, then you can't find the right
leverage or opening statement and EFT simply cannot work.
All through those migraine years I never once even began to
suspect it had anything to do with the global and all encompassing
misery of living in the same house with this bloke I didn't want
to have anything to do with any longer and to whom I was by then
probably seriously allergic.
<laughs and shakes head>
If you had *any* idea of the hundreds and hundreds of opening
statements I tapped on during that time!
I did *everything* I could possibly think of, then I used to ring
up friends who were also doing EFT when it was about to start
again and they'd find even more stuff to tap on - but not once,
not the single once, did anyone at all ever do or suggest or touch
anything to do with ex-husband or my relationship or my LIFE at
that point.
We were just messing around with old stuff - childhood stuff,
traumatic memories, well you know.
I have NO idea why oh, a dozen or so of the best therapists and
healers I know and including myself never once thought to tap on
the NOW.
Perhaps if we'd done that, and even opened up that can of worms or
huge dam, I would have had a nervous breakdown or something
because it really was bad with a capital B.
Perhaps we all knew that and so just didn't and worked on the rest
of the system at the time so I could keep on going regardless.
It's an interesting observation and supposition, and its also
interesting that this should come out as it where right here, and
right now - I wonder if this is an important message for one or
more who might be reading - or writing! - this ...
hmmmm ....
Silvia
