Yeah, very good point, Alex!!

The problem with science is not science - it is the people who make it
the absolute mark of truth (an illusion I used to be victim of, too).

Someone in epistemology/philosophy of science (don't remember who it
was) once wrote something along these lines: "science is the present
state of error". And that hits the nail on the head.

It was once undoubted scientific knowledge that the earth was flat.
That is was the centre of the universe. That an atom could not be split.

Even in the 1850s the thought that medical doctors could be
transmitting diseases caused a veritable outrage, even though
Semmelweis had right out proven his hypothesis in Vienna. These days
disinfecting hands and equipment is standard.

If you look into the history of science you will find an endless line
of scientific error. That line is growing every day. How many of our
"known scientific facts" our great grandchildren will laugh about we
have no idea.

Our knowledge is changing faster than ever. Many people are
subconsciously scared because of this. And bashing on people who
present new insights is way easier than questioning the structure of
what they know. Thank the creative order that they don't burn people
any longer (or so I hope).

Anyone who is among the pioneers in any field must be prepared to take
some "arrows in their backs".

Soften and flow is probably the best we can do about it.

Detlev
