I equate the conscious mind as a stallion. When trained the animal is extremely useful and can be a good friend in addition. When untrained, it can be unpredictable and even dangerous. We totally believe so much of the garbage the conscious mind comes up with.

By going inside we can touch a much deeper side of ourselves that we ALL have. It does not mean we get rid of the conscious mind at all. As Silvia says, without a conscious mind enlightenment is not possible. With an unruly conscious mind it is highly unlikely.

Yet if the mind is not trained and guided it can lead to all kinds of problems in people's lives. And you ETers might even be out of jobs if we were all able to truly make friends with our conscious minds!!! Conscious and unconscious cooperation is essential for us to be whole beings.

What Arjuna and others teach can assist with that. His voice has a very hypnotic quality and helps quiet the mind.

I was recently on YouTube and found some ministers are freaking out about (Rev.) Oprah's teleclasses with Eckhart Tolle. In fact they are even criticizing Tolle for the quiet time at the beginning of the classes. They are showing that brief video in instances. My hope is that some people watching the short segment will be touched by it and actually join in the classes. That quiet time along with hundreds of thousands of others is one of the class times I treasure.

Arjuna sounds like a nice bloke but he lost me the moment he started
bashing the conscious mind. Why do they do that? And where would you
  be without yours?

I'm very happy with mine thank you and if it wasn't for my conscious
mind I wouldn't be anywhere near the enlightened being I am today...

  ;)

  LOL!

Yes, I concur, Dr Quinn. Indeed I'd go so far as to say that *without* a conscious mind, enlightenment is impossible.

It's interesting. "Rejecting nothing" is the way forward in all things. And that's not just a theory.
