Well, I read Nicola's reply and thought, well, ok ...

I think tutor support is there TO KICK YOUR ASS ALL THE WAY TO EXCELLENCE.

I've tutored a course recently and that was really my only job - to stop people from "skating" over the difficult exercises; to reign them in when they were going off on some wild flight of fancy, to send them back to re-read important sections they must have read over, but not read properly; to spot places where they were having blind spots and holding up the mirror; and to basically kick ass until a breakthrough and a flowering of their abilities and confidence occurs.

Sure, they squeal and writhe like eels but in the end, they're really grateful that I "made them do it" because the results and achievements speak for themselves.

That's the truth of the matter.

And I know that Nicola does the same, because she *cares* about the materials and the students, but is a little too ladylike to say it out loud.

Sorry if I scared anyone ...
