I'm currently preparing the 2nd Edition of Oceans, and just came across the chapter with advice on self help.
I was quite shocked at reading the first paragraph - a wonderful head-slapping moment. I'd forgotten that bit! Yesterday afternoon, I was doing a thing and something happened where I couldn't seem to move the energy. I just did the same thing, only I spoke the words out aloud into the room, and OF COURSE! It started to work.
So here's the passage from Oceans, as a reminder to us all.

EmoTrance Self Help
I’ve heard it say numerous times now that practitioner assisted ET is more effective than ET in self help. In general, it is so that two people pulling on a string create more of a pull than one and to have a second viewpoint and a steadying other is always helpful, of course.
However, Self Help is perfectly possible and perfectly effective – providing:
1. You speak your concerns out loud.
This is one of the major reasons that people think other-assisted ET is so much more powerful – of course, you are speaking out loud about your sensations to the other.
When you do that, your focus is near enough complete, most of your neurology engaged and your intention and attention both exactly where they MUST be for the treatment of your energy system to be smooth and easy.
If you don’t speak aloud but just think inside your own head, all sorts of thoughts run all over the place and you are most likely to get distracted or fall into thoughts and conscious content of one kind or another, rather than remaining focussed on the energy that creates the physiological sensation. But also, there are certain processes of your neurology that are not engaged and are not taking part in the process which have proven to be extremely helpful – remember for example, that magic spells NEED to be spoken out aloud to make them become REAL rather than just a musing thought or a passing fancy.
This is one of these “universal laws” you will have heard about before and it is most helpful to take note and speak aloud – if you have problems with that, find the place in your body where this problem resides and remove it before starting to do self help with ET on other issues.
2. USE Your Healing Hands.
Just like the speaking, touching the place/s where the energy is stuck, and then following the energy as it moves through your system and finds it’s channels of release, has much more depth and meaning than just retaining your focus clearly on what’s happening and where you are at any point in the process.
Your hands are healing hands not just for others but also for yourself.
They help tremendously to smooth and gentle the passage of the energies, repairing and preparing pathways that may not have been used for many years and they bridge your physiology back to your energy self, reconnecting yourself with yourself in the most beautiful and profound way possible.
NB: If the energy is moving through channels or in parts of your body that you cannot physically reach to touch, use the “Hands Of Ghost” technique instead.
3. Practise Makes Perfect
EmoTrance works best when it is not used only for old problem removal and emergency work under duress but indeed, if you do it a lot and with subtle sensations as much as with big traumatic emotions.
It is worthwhile to remember that EmoTrance is indeed a practical, physical skill to re-learn, and that it is our aim and outcome to have this process happen completely automatically in immediate response to the environment and without having to think about it at all.
Therefore, I strongly suggest you practise EmoTrance whenever you become aware of an emotional sensation or a feeling in the day, whenever you notice that there is a disturbance. You can do this whilst driving, if you are getting frustrated with the traffic or with other drivers, for example; you can do it whilst waiting in bank lines, at airports, at supermarket checkouts. A very good place to practise is whilst watching movies and TV because these are of course designed to bring up emotions – be it soap operas, talk shows, scary movies, “romantic movies” or current affairs programmes, each one is a perfect opportunity to sooth your energy system and have it run that much better, that much smoother in the process.
Having EmoTrance on “automatic pilot” and fully learned changes your days profoundly and gives you much, much more energy to get what you really want out of life.
