personally I never liked the metaphor of cutting cords. I believe most people are cut off enough already... And it sound so much like a victim model: ties doing something to us.
How about seeing the problem in terms of desires that we hold onto?
My experience is that when I can welcome "the energy of desire" and let it flow, there is no need for cutting, as there is nothing that "I bind".
No ties, just liveliness, inspiration and choices available... (the moments when I can live up to what I described above)
